RP's Largest Airlines

Whew!! What a wonderful way to start a day! It's now time to determine the country's largest air carriers in terms of passengers flown.


1. PHILIPPINE AIRLINES




PAL is the thirteenth-largest corporation in the Philippines in terms of revenue and the twenty-first largest in terms of assets, as stated in the Philippines' Top 500 Largest Corporations of 2005. As of January 2005, PAL employs a total of 7,322 regular employees, including 450 pilots and 1300 cabin crew.
PAL is the sixty-first largest airline in the world in terms of revenue passenger kilometers flown, with over 16 million flown for 21 million available seat kilometers, an average load factor of 76 percent.

Zest Airways is an airline based in Pasay City, Manila in the Philippines. It operates scheduled domestic and international tourist services, mainly feeder services linking Manila and Cebu with 24 domestic destinations in support of the trunk route operations of other airlines.

RP's Largest Mobile Carriers

The number of Filipinos getting hooked to own a cellphone is indeed skyrocketing these years. And as we continue to own one, we add ourselves to the millions of people all over the country who are wirelessly connected. The following is the list of the large mobile carriers in the Philippines by number of subscribers


1. SMART COMUNICATIONS
20.6 MILLION








Wholly-owned mobile phone subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT). With over 30 million subscribers on its GSM network as of end-December 2007, equivalent to approximately half of the Philippine cellular market share. It operates a nationwide cellular network and a satellite phone service. It also has the most extensive and modern digital communications GSM network and infrastructure in the country, covering over 99 percent of the population




2. GLOBE TELECOMS

Commonly known as Globe, is the second-largest telecommunications company in the Philippines, providing a diversified set of fixed-line and mobile telecommunications services

Also owned by PLDT, this mobile carrier has proven its resilience amidst big mobile carriers in the country banking on its cheap and affordable rates and promos.




4. SUN CELLULAR

Sun Cellular, formally known as Digitel Mobile Philippines, Inc., is a mobile telecommunication service provider in the Philippines. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Digital Telecommunications Philippines or Digitel. Digitel is in turn owned by the JG Summit Group with a minority stake held by the TeliaSonera Group. It is assigned to an access code of 922/923. It began its operations in 2003, positioned as a latecomer in the market allowed it to put up infrastructure at lower cost.Sun Cellular gained popularity because of its "24/7" offer of unlimited text messaging and calls for a fixed price for Sun-to-Sun transactions. This led competing networks Smart Communications and Globe Telecom to offer similar but higher-cost plans.

RP's Wealthiest Men

Forbes Asia 2008 Philippine Rich List has named the 83-year old mall mogul, Henry Sy as the country's wealthiest man. Sy has an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion, up by $1.4 billion from last year, the biggest gain on the list by absolute terms. Sy and his family control SM investments, which owns stakes in a dozen of compnaies including the nation's second largest bank. Banco de Oro Unibank.
